About us

AFLAME BOOKS has a mission: to provide you with the finest English translations of literature from across the world hitherto hidden by barriers of culture and language.

Since 2005, we have been publishing fiction and poetry fired with the passion and originality that abounds in what was once called the “Third World” and is now more positively referred to as the Warm World.

But fine writing is truly universal, and our work is not limited by lines sketched on a map: we also reach out from our base in the United Kingdom to authors in other regions of the world.

Nor are we confined by the bottom line – unlike large publishing houses that pay lip service to the Warm World, Aflame is an independent “social business” mindful of its responsibilities whose revenues are ploughed, in their entirety, back into bringing more authors into English.

Aflame’s first book, Halala Madiba: Nelson Mandela in Poetry, was published in July 2006. We produce about six books a year and, to date, we have published the work of writers from Iran, Guatemala, Angola, South Africa, Egypt, Argentina, Brazil, Costa Rica and Mexico, many of whom are award-winners in their own language.

Join us in our mission to bring words from afar to everyone who reads English. There is nothing quite like us. We are, in short, the library of the global village.

This website aims to provide you with information about our titles, extracts from them, links to reviews about them, and biographical details of our authors. Our book pages allow you to comment about them: we welcome your views.

On this site you will also be able to find out how to buy our books individually or as a retailer, contact our distributors across the world, request review copies or press releases from us, or contact us for further information or to discuss foreign rights.
